Luminex has grown immensely through the years, and with a vast portfolio of products and a global workforce, there is a lot of pressure on our Customer Service Team to oversee the accuracy of order processing and fulfillment. Rico Weterings, International Order Management Associate, EMEA, helps manage this process from our office in the Netherlands. He joined the company in 2019 and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and languages.
Q: What are your responsibilities at Luminex?
A: I’m part of the Order Management Team for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. We review new orders from customers, ensure detail accuracy—including pricing across various currencies—and monitor inventory. We also verify whether there are any local regulations we have to comply with. There are all sorts of things we need to do before we even enter the order!
Q: How did you get into this line of work?
A: I’ve been in Customer Service since I finished college. When I was in school, I trained in England for six months and had the opportunity to work at Pall Biomedical, which had an extensive international environment. After that, I knew this was the kind of work I wanted to do.
Q: What drew you to Luminex?
A: I’ve always been interested in the medical devices field—partly because my dad worked in a hospital for over 40 years. So, I had that interest, and it evolved into wanting to work for a company that builds medical devices. When I saw the vacancy with Luminex, I decided to apply. The rest is history.
Q: If you could solve any clinical or genetic challenge, what would it be?
A: For me, that’s a no-brainer. In Holland, one out of three people gets cancer, so I would aim to solve that if I could.
Q: If you weren’t an Order Management Associate at Luminex, where would you be?
A: I would still be interested in working with international customers and putting my knowledge of different languages to use, but the role could be anything. My native language is Dutch, but I also speak English, German, and a little bit of French.
Q: What is something about you that no one at Luminex knows?
A: Most people don’t know about my passion for music. I like to collect records and CDs—I have more than a thousand by now. I also go to all kinds of festivals and concerts.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?
A: That depends on the season. We are an hour away from Belgium, Amsterdam, and the German border, so there are always plenty of things to do. We have the best sandy beaches about an hour and a half away. I also enjoy hiking with my wife.
