Last week, the Obama Administration held a White House Forum on Antibiotic Stewardship as part of its ongoing effort to combat antibiotic resistance. The forum brought together the most influential leaders in healthcare to recognize their uniform commitment and active work toward improving antibiotic stewardship, strengthening antibiotic resistance risk assessment, surveillance, reporting capabilities, and driving research innovation in the human health and agricultural sectors.
At the forum, Nanosphere was recognized as an “All Committed” diagnostic company that is making strides to improve antibiotic use and slow the rise of antibiotic-resistant infections threatening modern medicine.
“With better and faster tests, prescribers can get patients the right medicine at the right time when necessary,” the White House stated. “Information about the number of resistant pathogens at facility, state and national levels helps clinicians have a sense of what drugs are not working in their area.”
The convening builds off of President Obama’s September 2014 Executive Order 13676, which prioritizes government efforts to fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria, as well as the March 2015 National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria, a plan that outlines specific actions to be taken by key government sections.
