Throughput, Speed, and Insights with Multiplexing
The Applied Physiology Laboratory at the University of North Texas (UNT) is a shared resource that provides expertise in immunology, nutrition, and muscle physiology. They often collaborate with partners in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries to provide bioanalytical consultation and biomarker testing services at a more competitive price-point than a contract research organization.
In addition to traditional techniques like western blots and flow cytometry, they use multiplex immunoassays to understand how exercise affects biological outcomes, specifically the impact of inflammation. Multiplexing enables the team to ask and answer research questions they previously couldn’t with traditional ELISAs, according to Jakob Vingren, Co-Director and Associate Professor. With xMAP®-based assays and the FLEXMAP 3D® instrument, they’ve been able to reduce the analysis time by 95% versus singleplex techniques. In addition, they get actionable results faster with less sample input.
