Palomar Health was recently profiled by VigiLanz for its work to address the crisis of antibiotic resistance. Its platform of choice is the VERIGENE® System for rapid blood culture diagnostics.

California Hospital System Uses VERIGENE® System to Address Antibiotic Resistance

The healthcare system, based in California, operates three hospitals and several other facilities. According to the profile, “Palomar Health is nationally recognized for providing the highest quality of clinical care and access to comprehensive services.”

Palomar’s team opted for the VERIGENE System to more quickly generate medically actionable results from blood samples. “With blood infections, time is life because if you’re not getting the right antibiotic, that bacterium will kill you,” commented Mike Kruse, manager of Clinical Pharmacy Services at Palomar Health.

The clinical team adopted the VERIGENE® Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Blood Culture Tests for rapid detection of pathogens and markers of antibiotic resistance. Paired with a clinical surveillance platform from VigiLanz, Palomar’s medical professionals can now get results about bacteria present, associated drug resistance, and appropriate medications to use for each situation.

Congratulations to the Palomar Health team for this exciting work!
