Webinar Wednesday: Immunoassay Multiplexing Master Class

From assay development to workflow protocols, how to run a multiplex immunoassay

Webinar Wednesday: Immunoassay Multiplexing Master Class

If you could run in 3 hours an immunoassay workflow that would normally take more than 60 hours, that wouldn’t be a tough decision, would it? A step-by-step tutorial webinar from Brett Houser at Bio-Rad shows you exactly how to make that transition.

Houser is the Bio-Plex Multiplex Immunoassay Product Manager, which means he spends his time developing and working with immunoassays based on our xMAP® Technology — making him the perfect expert to help other scientists get up and running with this approach for protein detection and quantification. In “Mastering the Art and Science of Multiplex Immunoassays,” he offers a 30-minute class on everything you need to start multiplexing.

Fewer Hours with Multiplexing

The webinar begins with an introduction to bead-based multiplexing, which allow users to measure many analytes in a single reaction. This reduces the sample volume, cost, and hands-on time required as compared to single-analyte ELISAs. In one example, Houser presents data showing that an analysis of 27 cytokines across 80 samples would take more than 60 hours and 80 times more sample with ELISA testing, but just 3 hours with multiplex assays. Houser also shows how the multiplexing technology works for anyone who’s unfamiliar with it.

Consistency is Key

From there, the webinar moves on to practical information needed to develop and run a multiplex immunoassay. Houser recommends focusing on key assay performance metrics during development — such as accuracy, sensitivity, reproducibility, and more — with detailed explanations of how to accomplish this. He also reviews sample type options, sample prep protocols, and critical calibration and validation steps to keep the instrumentation running smoothly. “The most important thing is to be consistent,” Houser says. “This will result in the most reproducible data.”

Many thanks to Bio-Rad and to Brett Houser for putting together this helpful webinar. If you’re interested in finding out how multiplex immunoassays could transform your setup, we hope you get a chance to watch!
